I was not told why I was dropped as SRH captain, says David Warner

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner on Tuesday made a shocking revelation that the owners or the team management did not tell him why he was dropped as the captain.

The Australian opener, Warner was replaced by Kane Williamson in the first half of the Indian Premier League 2021 in April, when the team was at the bottom after losing five of their six matches.

“With the utmost respect to the owners, Trevor Bayliss, Laxman, Moody and Fife, when a decision is made, it must be unanimous. You don’t know who that person is going for you and who isn’t,” Warner told Sports Today.

“The other disappointing thing for me was not being told why I was dropped as captain. If you want to go along the lines of form, it’s difficult because I think everything you’ve done in the past will have some weight going forward, you’d think.”

“Especially when you have played around 100 matches for the franchise, I think I had four bad games in those first five games in Chennai. It’s hard, a tough pill to swallow. There are still questions that I think I will never find answers to, but you have to move on.”

The Australian further said that he would “love to represent SRH” again but it is not in his hands. “I would prefer nothing more than to represent Sunrisers, but obviously the decision lies with the owners,” he added.

Sunrisers remained at the bottom of the IPL 2021 points table.
