Despite having little experience as a leader in the WBBL, Mooney said she puts her trust in head coach Rachael Haynes.

Gujarat Giants captain Beth Mooney doesn’t have a lot of experience as a leader, but with former opening partner Rachael Haynes as head coach to back her up, she needs to make a difference during the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League. There is trust.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind. I’ve only been here for 36 hours,” Mooney revealed to the media on Friday evening ahead of the team’s first match against Mumbai Indians on Saturday.

“I met the coaching staff and the players. Everyone is very excited to go. Mooney, who played a match-winning knock for Australia in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa, said, “I am very excited and thrilled to be here and be a part of the first match.”

Despite having little experience as a leader in the WBBL, Mooney said she puts her trust in head coach Rachael Haynes.

“It (captaincy) was definitely not something that was on my radar. When I got bids in the auction, I was happy to be a part of it and to be selected by a team.

“I know Rachael Haynes very well and to be able to work with her, she’s in her first job as head coach. I haven’t captained a lot recently, but when I was very young Then I did enough. I have a little experience and I trust Rachael and her judgment and I was more than happy to help her,” she said.

Mooney said she wants the players to show what women’s cricket can do for the world.

“I have teamed up with Rachael (Haines), Mithali (Raj) and Noosh (Noushin Al Khadeer). We’ve got a very exciting and skilled group. I’m looking forward to the girls showcasing their skills and showing the world what women’s cricket can really do,” Mooney said.
