I-League: Tiago Adan inspires Late Real Kashmir comeback against Neroca FC

Real Kashmir managed to make a comeback from behind scoring a late goal in a 3-3 draw against Neroca FC at the Kalyani Stadium on Tuesday. Neroca FC entered the second half with a 2–0 lead, with a goal from defender Ponif Vaz (18′) and a brilliant header from Mohamed Kadouh (33). Captain Mason Robertson (48′) brought his team back into the competition, but Sergio Mendigutxia (58′) once again crossed the gap by two goals with a tap-in goal. A late goal from the spot by Tiago Adan (88′) prompted Real Kashmir’s comeback as Surchandra Singh (90+6′) scored a goal in injury time to end the match in a 3-3 draw.

The match began with Neroca FC switching to attack mode as soon as the whistle blows, and in the second minute, they created an opportunity that just went wide. Two minutes later, Real Kashmir swung into action as Mason Robertson picked up a cross from Abash Thapa from the left, but his header went straight into the hands of Neroca goalkeeper Shubham Dhas.

The real Kashmir continued to create opportunities but an error in defense proved too costly for the Snow Leopards. Defender Ponif Vaz hit the ball into his own net in the 18th minute to give Neroca FC a 1-0 lead. A minute later, Fran Gonzalez departed with an injury and was replaced by Surchandra Chandam Singh in another blow to Real Kashmir.

In the 27th minute, Tiago Aden scored a run from midfield and crossed the ball to Mason Robertson, but the Real Kashmir captain could not get his foot close to the ball and missed the opportunity. Minutes later, Neroca FC doubled their lead as Mohamed Kadouh entered the net in a cross from Llanmang Sitlho.

In the 41st minute, Mason Robertson sent a dangerous cross inside the box for Tiago Aden, but Neroca FC defender Ben Nash brushed off the threat. At the stroke of half-time, Real Kashmir goalkeeper Shubham Roy missed a Juan Mera’s long-range effort, creating a huge opportunity for Neroca FC, but Khaminthang Lungdim’s shots were blocked by Real Kashmir’s defence.

Real Kashmir displayed direct intent in the second half, as Mason Robertson found himself on target as he scored a goal in the 48th minute to put his team back in the competition. Two minutes later he got another chance but his shot from the nearby post went over the bar.

When Real Kashmir was starting to dominate, a tap-in goal from Sergio Mendigutxia extended Neroca FC’s lead to 3-1. Mendigutxia was set up by Swede Fernandes, who went on a forceful run crossing Real Kashmir’s midfield, before passing the ball to the Spaniard to set up for the goal.

With both teams eyeing the goals, the game turned into a box-to-box competition. Rohinthanga fired a shot from long distance in the 72nd minute, but it went over the bar. Minutes later, Kadouh went for a bicycle kick inside the box after a pass from Juan Mera but failed to connect with the ball.

In the 80th minute, Robertson sent a pass to Tiago Adan inside the box, but a powerful left footed shot was saved by Shubham Dhas. A few minutes later, the play continued as Tiago Aden hit a header in the back of the net but was adjudged offside and the goal was denied, despite repeated protests by the Brazilian.

In the 85th minute, Dhanjoy Singh took Tiago Adan down inside the box and the referee immediately signaled a penalty. Tiago dispatches Shubham Das the wrong way and he converts from the spot, to reduce the gap to 2-3.

Real Kashmir continued to build pressure in stoppage time as they maintained possession and tried to continue their penetration attempts inside the six-yard box. Tiago Adan passes a brilliant ball inside the box, inviting the Neroca FC goalkeeper to come forward to catch the ball. But the ball went over him and Surchandra Singh directed the ball into the empty net to bring his team to a level pegging. The thrilling game ended in a 3-3 draw as Real Kashmir managed to snatch a point in the match.
