I don’t follow trends, I wear what suits me: Ankita Shourie – Times of India

Former Miss India Ankita Shourie is the new fashionista in town. She is making headlines these days with her fabulous and unique style. Be it traditional dress or contemporary dress, Ankita knows how to take fashion forward. In an exclusive conversation with Times of India, ETimes, she revealed her style and skin care secrets. Here is an excerpt from the interview.

How has your style evolved from your Miss India days to the present day outfit?

As: At the time I was still researching myself and looking for verification. I am no longer looking for validation and I am more certain, contained and confident about my style. I have evolved and I only wear things that I know I can pull off well and not because I saw someone else wearing it. It is extremely important to be able to carry whatever you wear with great ease otherwise you can make a fool of yourself. In the past, I’ve had those moments.

That’s why I know what looks good on me and that’s what I wear.

What are the things you keep in mind before getting ready for an event?

As: I like to experiment with my looks according to my mood and I am not afraid of trollers. For me, it’s about connecting with the floats of my generation. Even when I was in a wheelchair, I tried my best to be well dressed and attend any wedding or function. You should be comfortable in what you wear and you should like yourself. You can’t have the whole world.

Any international celebrity you look up to when it comes to style?

AS: I admire Hailey Baldwin. I relate a lot to his style. I also love Kendall Jenner and Dua Lipa.

We see a sudden resurgence of the nineties and nineties trend. Are you following them too?

As: I see international stars all following the trends of the nineties and novices. I don’t follow trends. I have an eye for any look and very strangely, it’s finally trending. So I feel that sometimes I always keep pace with the latest trends. I divided the audience with my looks. You may face anger or setbacks when you start a particular trend, but you are appreciated for it later.

Are you a street style person or a gown person?

As: I don’t have any favourites. I am experimenting with different looks. I can wear whatever suits me. I am also a sneakerhead. I have a huge collection of sneakers. I wear sneakers to heels.

Your Indo-Western look came into limelight with the music of Ankita Lokhande. How did you decide on the look?

As: For music, I wanted to try something different and have fun. So I picked up this denim skirt and jacket with jaipuri work and paired it with sneakers and gladiators.

Who is your famous designer?

As: I love Dior, Chanel and L.V. like. I have a lot of Dior stuff. I love its classy appeal. And if I want something colorful and quirky, I’ll go for Gucci. I am also in love with Manish Malhotra and his recent sequin collection is something I am in love with.
