Kanpur: Presidential train carrying President Ramnath Kovind and his wife Savita Kovind, the country’s first lady, left Delhi’s Safdarjung railway station at around 1.30 pm.
After walking for about three and a half hours, Etawah railway station reached Jhinjhak railway station of Kanpur Dehat at five in the evening and after stopping for about 15 minutes started towards Rura station. The President was accorded a grand welcome at these stations.
Earlier, on reaching Jhinjhak railway station, the President said, “I was planning to visit my native place in 2019, and now I am finally here. I would like to express my feelings on finding myself among you. I have no words. I express my gratitude for the kindness with which you have received us.”
President Kovind interacted with old acquaintances from his school days and early days of social service at Jhinjhak and Rura railway stations.
On reaching Rura, he said, “I have reached the prestigious post of President of the country with the blessings of the people of my place of birth.”
Both Jhinjhak and Rura railway stations are close to Paraunkh village in Kanpur Dehat which is the birthplace of Kovind. Two events are scheduled to honor him on June 27.
Tight security arrangements were made in and around both the railway stations.
This is the first time the President is visiting his birthplace after assuming office.
