New Delhi: After a Hyundai Motor Pakistan dealer courted controversy on social media by seeking support from separatists in Kashmir, the carmaker on Sunday clarified its stand on the issue, saying it stands firm on its ethos of respecting nationalism.
The reaction came in response to a Hyundai dealer in Pakistan’s Twitter account @hyundaiPakistanOfficial posting a message in support of Kashmir Solidarity Day, called the “struggle for freedom”.
In Pakistan, February 5 is observed as ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ to express support for the separatist movement in Kashmir.
Soon after the post went viral, #BoycottHyundai started trending on Twitter and many people demanded to buy the company’s products in the country. In retaliation for the developments, Hyundai Motors India on Sunday tweeted reiterating its commitment to the Indian market.
“Hyundai MotorIndia has been committed to the Indian market for over 25 years and we firmly stand by our strong ethos of respecting nationalism,” it said.
The company further said, “Unsolicited social media posts linking Hyundai Motor India are hurting our unparalleled commitment and service to this great nation.”
