Expressing displeasure over the plight of women in Telangana state, its Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said that she will not remain silent and will continue to fight for women.
The governor was speaking at an event called ‘Mahila Darbar’ at the Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday when she assured women that she would protect them in any adverse situation.
During the program, the Governor patiently listened to the problems of the women of the state. At the invitation of the Governor, many women narrated their ordeal of being victims of sexual harassment.
Addressing the gathering, he said, “Many people have doubts whether the governor meets the general public? It has to be remembered that every government office is functioning only for the people. Although the security personnel objected, I do visit Covid patients in times of pandemic. Women have been harassed more in the society. As a woman, I want to support the women who are suffering. I want to be companion of women of Telangana. I want to act as a bridge between women and the government. I don’t care about the protesters. The women of Telangana should be protected. I will be his sister to protect the women of Telangana. No one can stop me I will be the voice for the innocent victims and will take this to the government. It is the responsibility of the government to respond. Whatever be the policy, it has to be implemented for the people. Whatever work we have done, the end result should be for the people. Women currently need this kind of support. We will win. No one can stop victory”.
Explaining the reason behind the conduct of Mahila Darbar, he said, “I decided to meet the women 24 hours back. There is an overwhelming response. Keeping the current circumstances in mind, I organized Mahila Darbar to support women. There is no political motive behind this. Some people are questioning the operation of such a program in the Raj Bhavan. Raj Bhavan has every right to organize such programs. This is not a political programme. I am running the programs that I am capable of. I will organize Mahila Darbar in future also. Government institutions are only for the people. I am requesting the government to respect Raj Bhavan. I sent problems to the government which people bring to my notice. I ordered the concerned authorities to submit a report on the Jubilee Hills gang rape case in two days. But till now he has not given any report. I respect the elected government. The government should also respond in the same way. The government is not following the protocol properly. It won’t stop me. I am not a controversial person. I am working with an aim to serve the people of Telangana.”
