HYDERABAD: A private teacher, 47-year-old Bathinda Hanuman Das, struggles for his life inside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Secunderabad’s Srikara Hospital after being seriously injured in a drunk driving accident.

The police discovered that Reddy was heavily intoxicated while driving and soon after the accident, he allegedly tried to run away before the locals caught him. Kalyan Chandi (22), Das’s son, now wanders from door to door to get money for the treatment of his seriously injured father. “My father has only medical insurance of 3 lakhs. The bill is expected to cross 15 lakhs. He suffered severe brain damage and suffered multiple fractures in his left arm and left leg,” Moon Told TOI.
Chand and his younger brother Mahesh Gaur (19) are now very worried as they are unsure about how they will pay the current bills, let alone their college fees. Despite all this, when Reddy and his family members offered him a settlement, Chand declined the offer. They say that they only want justice. Chand is doing B.Com final year, while Mahesh is in the first year of the same course.
Moreover, Chand was already mourning the demise of his grandmother as she succumbed to Covid-19 earlier this year.
The police had registered a case under sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (endangering life) of the IPC. Das’s family members are also demanding that the police register a case under section 304 (II) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC.
Doctors said Das was still critical and on ventilator support as he was vomiting due to a serious head injury. Bhavuk Chand said, “Even if my father is alive, the doctors are unsure whether he can lead a normal life. We don’t know the way forward.”
