New Delhi: Tilak Verma’s quick innings of 75 runs and a brilliant performance by the bowlers helped Hyderabad beat Gujarat by 30 runs in the quarter-final match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament here on Thursday. Batting at the Air Force Ground in Palam, Hyderabad scored 158/5 off just 50 balls in Verma’s innings of 75 and then defeated the opposition 128/7 to enter the last-four stage of the National T20 Championship. limited to 8.

Hyderabad quickly lost opener Pragnaya Reddy (1) after being caught in front of pacer Chintan Gaja (2/32). In-form captain Tanmay Agarwal (31) led the innings with Verma as the duo put on 46 runs for the second wicket. It was Verma who not only played with the Gujarat attack but also handled the innings, hitting five fours and two sixes in the process.

He found good support from Himalaya Agarwal (23) and Buddhi Rahul (25 not out), who played the second fiddle. Thanks to Verma, Hyderabad could go close to 160 runs. Chasing a target of 159, Gujarat were trailing on 3/33 after losing their top three batsmen cheaply.

Two-down Het Patel (25) and Piyush Chawla (25) tried to take the game deeper, but Hyderabad took the lead. Ripple Patel raised the hopes of Gujarat by scoring 35 runs in 24 balls but by then it was too little and too late. Once Ripple was dismissed by Chama Milind (2/28), it was all over for Gujarat.
