Hyderabad: Artists adopt nine tortoises at Nehru Zoological Park

Artists from Hyderabad adopted tortoises for a year.

Hyderabad: A group of artists from the city adopted nine turtles at the Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) for a period of one year. As part of the novel initiative, on Tuesday, senior artist and curator, Bolgam Nagesh Gaur, who headed the group, handed over a check of Rs 2.70 lakh to the curator, Nehru Zoological Park, S Rajasekhar.

Nagesh Gaur organized a sculpture show called ‘Kurma’ at the State Art Gallery in Madhapur on January 21 and 22 and 15 artists participated in the event. In the exhibition, sculptures of tortoises painted by 15 well-known Indian artists were displayed and later sold to buyers. The proceeds from the event were handed over to the zoo officials for adoption of the turtles.

In 2020, Goud curated the exhibition Gaza which displayed 25 painted sculptures of elephants and contributed Rs 3.5 lakh from the sale proceeds towards the maintenance of Sita, the elephant in the zoo park. Curator, Nehru Zoological Park, S Rajasekhar, Hyderabad thanked the artists who came forward to promote wildlife conservation.
