Mysore: Hundreds devotees Colorful Mahabhishek from different places Nandi (Bull) image Above Chamundi Hill on Sunday. The Mahabhishek was conducted by the members of the Bettada Balaga Charitable Trust, which has been conducting the event for almost two decades.
Volunteers at Bettada Balaga, a group of frequent walkers and joggers Chamundi HillsOrganize Mahabhishek for the 350 year old idol during Kartik month. This is the sixteenth year the group has organized the annual event.
Due to COVID-19, the program was kept simple yet traditional. The scaffolding was not even built around the statue. The seer Somnath Swami and Hosamata seer Chidananda Swami of the Sri Adhichunchanagiri Mahasansthan Math Mysore branch performed special pujas as part of the Mahabhisheka.
The monolithic statue was cleaned and the priests made water, milk, curd, lemon juice, sugarcane juice, coconut water, sandalwood paste, grapes, kumkum, turmeric, ghee, red sandalwood, various flours of lentils with 38 different ingredients. Consecrated the idol. Dried fruits, fruits, Ashtagandha and coins.
The idol, believed to be the third largest Nandi statue in the country, is believed to have been installed by the Mysore ruler Dodda Devaraja Wadiyar in the 17th century. The idol is 15 feet long and 20 feet wide and is carved out of a single stone. The idol was installed near the 700th step out of the 1008 steps leading to the summit.
Speaking on the occasion, Bettada Balagaga Secretary N Govind said that the organization is running Coronation For the statue from 2006. “Like in 2020, this year also we have organized the event in a simple manner due to covid. We are planning to organize next year’s event in a grand manner. Through this programme, we pray to God to bring peace and love to the world, end the COVID pandemic and stop the deluge.”
Govinda said that the abhishekam was performed with 38 ingredients and later Jalabhisheka and Rudrabhishek were performed.
Balaga volunteers distributed prasad to the devotees present in the program.
