The famous Nograj is all set to make you laugh again with a new web series. The teaser and trailer of the Kannada series have raised the hopes of this political-comedy satire releasing on Voot Select. Danish Sait, who plays the role of Nograj, says, The 10 episode series is a total entertainment package and we are here only to provide entertainment. Saad Khan has directed the series and the pair shared their experiences with News18.
Do you speak like Nograj in real life in ear-glash? How do you interact with your wife at home?
Danish: No no.. My wife speaks Marathi. I speak every language she can’t understand. The specific language the Nograj speaks is Urban Kannada which you can see in most parts of Bangalore. It actually started with my stint in FM when I was involved in product design. It is the culture and the subtle culture element that inspired me. Earlier I used to use this accent to make a prank call. But I am nograj between the action and the cut, otherwise I am not.
Why did you choose OTT? You could have done the humble politician Nograj Part 2, which is a sequel to your previous film?
Danish: We are aware of the current situation and have decided to play safe. It is a different comedy entertainer and we know people loved Nograj. Considering the investment of money, time and pride that goes into movie making, OTT is a safe haven. The entire project took two years to complete. We cater precisely to the audiences who love and enjoy Nograj. The output required for theaters and for OTT platforms are different and considering the fluctuating COVID situation, it is better to let people sit in the comfort of their homes and enjoy the series.
What is the inspiration for other characters in the film, for example Prakash Belavadi’s KGB…
Saad Khan: Every character is fictional. If someone thought they could relate to a character and felt hurt, we couldn’t help it. But I can assure that every single character is born out of imagination. Regarding KGB, the role played by Prakash Belavadi, he asked, ‘Who do you have in mind for this character?’ I said no one This is a fictional character.
Tell us about another famous character Manjunath.
Saad Khan: Manjunath is Nograj’s shadow. He does not think whether it is right or wrong, he wants every order passed by Nograj to be obeyed. Vijay Chandur has done an amazing job. So take the second cast, everyone fits perfectly.
There is always the fear of conflict when some characters seem like real people or events. With many political events having real-life resemblance, how did you plan to keep this series safe?
Danish Sait: It’s totally up to us. Producer and Applause team Sameer Nair with Voot has worked and planned tremendously on this aspect. For example, the resort scene in the series could be any. People visit resorts to relax and have fun. If someone feels aggressive about it and thinks it’s related to something else, it can’t help. Yes, we have seen many examples on these lines of what you mentioned and maybe we learned from them. But thankfully we have a great team that not only invested money or produced the series, but by all means stood by and brought it to this level. We are aware of the risks and are also grateful for the opportunities. But then, it’s all completely up to us. We are here to serve laughter and laughter alone.
Nograj is a man who has a mission in life: to become the Chief Minister of Karnataka. And he makes every effort to do so. Corruption, greed, power gimmicks and everything we see in today’s world of politics is presented in the series with a pinch of salt and a lot of humour. Danish Sait as Nograj will appear in a commercial Kannada web series to be available on Voot Select from January 6, 2022.
