Elaborating on New Delhi’s security concerns after the developments in Afghanistan, he said India would like to do everything possible to ensure that the situation in the neighboring country does not adversely affect it.

“We are already seeing some impact of some of this situation. We are not sure whether there is a direct link or not. untouched by the effects of consequences that may be prejudicial to our interests.”

The Foreign Secretary said that India has to be prepared to deal with contingencies arising out of a more unstable Afghanistan and the situation may worsen due to humanitarian crisis and lack of governance. He said that India will also have to avoid those forces who want to use this situation to harm others.

Shringla also referred to a visit by a top ISI official to Kabul ahead of government formation in Afghanistan. “We have seen the formation of a government that is far from inclusive and representative. We have seen the Director General (Director General) of ISI going there (Kabul) and facilitating a government that has 35 cabinet members who are UN Security Council nominees.

“So this is not a good start. We have to watch carefully how the situation develops. The international community has significant benefits,” said the foreign secretary. To a question on India’s engagement with the Taliban, Shringla referred to Indian envoy to Qatar Deepak Mittal’s meeting with Taliban leader Sher Mohammad Abbas Stankzai in Doha in late August.

“We have got some assurances and some understanding of how they (Talibans) would like to see our participation.
