Huma Qureshi shared her experience of filming the rape scene in Badlapur and how it filled her with rage.
Huma Qureshi, Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Badlapur was one of the best films of 2015. While the two lead actors won accolades for their performances, Huma Qureshi was equally appreciated for her role as a sex-worker. Now, in a fresh revelation about the film, Huma Qureshi has shared that there was a particular scene in which the actress was trembling with shock.
During a round table discussion organized by Manoranjan Portal Bollywood Hungama, Huma Qureshi recalled, “I play a sex worker. That’s why I did the film, because to me, it was such a beautiful thing to explore how we can make people feel bad for a sex worker who we judge so easily and who might even be raped. And she is also a woman. At the end of the day I love that thing in that character but I was like a wreck while doing the scene.”
He remembered that anger inside him after going home. Huma shared, “They were all amazing. But, it’s a lot. I remember going back to my room and I was fully clothed the whole time and it was all fake but I went back home and my hands were shaking. You are not feeling it for the other person but you are there. I got angry because you want to hit back at that person and you can’t. I just got angry I really had to calm myself down.”
Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Badlapur was a neo-noir action thriller film adapted from an Italian novel Death’s Dark Abyss written by author Massimo Carloto. Apart from Huma Qureshi, Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the film also featured Yami Gautam, Vinay Pathak, Divya Dutta and Radhika Apte. Upon its release, the film had earned around Rs 81.3 crore thus becoming a commercial hit.
