Giving details, Major General Ajay Chandpuria, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army’s 19 Infantry Division, shared intelligence received from multiple intelligence agencies over a period of two weeks about infiltration attempts and dumping of war-like stores by terrorists in Hathlanga area. The seizures included eight AK-74 rifles, 24 AK-74 rifle magazines, 560 7.62 mm AK-74 live ammunition, 12 .30 mm Chinese pistols, 24 Chinese pistol magazines, 244 .30 mm pistol live ammunition, nine Chinese hand grenades. , including five Pakistanis. Original hand grenades, 81 balloons with “I love Pakistan” written on them, and five synthetic gunny pieces with Pakistani markings, the army official said.

“Situation is normal in Kashmir Valley as the number of terrorists and availability of war like stores is always less. So, there is huge desperation from the other side to either infiltrate terrorists or smuggle war-like material,” he told reporters in Baramulla.

Referring to the recovery of weapons, Maj Gen Chandpuria said security forces receive such reports on a regular basis and it cannot be said whether it was an attempt by terrorists or smugglers to procure war material.

“We are still following the leads and some details cannot be shared, but a movement was picked up close to the launchpad. Probably they (terrorists) got scared and left behind the war-like facade and moved to that side.

Major General Chandpuria said that not only infiltration attempts have been made along the border, but also smuggling of war-like stores and drugs in the past.

“There are some areas like this where we have houses next to the LoC fence close to the Line of Control and such attempts are reported from time to time due to the movement of people along the Line of Control,” he said.
