Hubli: Toy bullet train will run on the tracks soon Mahatma Gandhi Park. A Pune-based construction company has started the work of laying the tracks for the much-awaited toy train project. Hubballi, Dharwad Smart City Project.
Hubli-Dharwad Smart City Limited (hdscl) planned the project. Work got delayed due to lockdown and transportation issues, but now it has accelerated.
The company is laying the track for a distance of 950 meters. The train is designed like modern bullet trains, with curved single glass wind screen and front rolling LED screen. The train will have 2 locomotives and four bogies, and each coach will seat 16 people. It will be air-conditioned, will have audio and visual system, CCTV cameras, automatic doors, solar roof top and other facilities.
CW Shakeel Ahmed, Mohamed, HDSCL said that the work order for the project was awarded to CC Engineers, Pune in January 2020, but the project got delayed due to the lockdown and other issues. “Now the company has agreed to finish the work within six to eight weeks, and speed up the work on the tracks and other works,” he said.
The total cost of the project is Rs 4.2 crore. The project was awarded to the company on a five-year operation and maintenance (O&M) basis. The toy train will have stations, maintenance sheds, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and pilots.

“The authorities should expedite the work and make it available for the children. Traveling in a toy train for kids will be a great experience, and that too with advanced facilities,” she said.
Activist Ramesh S said that Mahatma Gandhi Park is the only park in the country Hubli A city where a large number of people can go out with their families on weekdays. The park was closed for several days due to the renovation.
“The authorities should expedite the development work in Mahatma Gandhi Park and make it available to the public at the earliest,” he said.
