Hubballi: The Karnataka State Retired Government Employees and Senior Citizens Association will organize a joint conference of retired employees and senior citizens in April. Hubli,
Association President BA Patil Said on Tuesday that the government has not provided certain facilities required under the Senior Citizens Welfare Act.
“Even the authorities are not giving the existing facilities to the senior citizens. Though atrocities on senior citizens are increasing in the state, the government is not taking any action. We will discuss all such issues in the conference.”
“CM Basavaraj Bommai has agreed to inaugurate the conference. We will fix the date soon and invite Union Ministers pralhad joshi and A. Narayan, Senior Citizens Welfare Minister Halappa Achar, Textiles Minister Shankar Patil Munenkoppaformer CM Jagadish Shettar And all the MLAs of Dharwad district,” Patil said of the plans.
Elaborating on the condition of senior citizens in the state, Patil said there are around 70 lakh senior citizens in Karnataka, out of which 8 lakh are retired state and central government employees.
“More than 50% senior citizens who were not government employees are facing financial crunch. The convention also aims to create awareness about rights and facilities among senior citizens.
He said that the first Senior Citizens’ Conference was held in 2015 in Hubli.
