How to take care of your feet in monsoon – Times of India

Our feet are most exposed to damp and wet climates. Fungal infections, wet shoes, to name a few, are some of the battles they fight. With the monsoon season ringing, let’s take the pampering session at home up a notch. Move beyond your daily skincare routine, and let your feet indulge in some goodness. Here are some monsoon footcare tips.

1. Keep Them Dry – The secret mantra to soft feet is to let them play as defenders while you play ahead and cherish the rain. Wet feet are prone to swelling, odor and fungal infections. Therefore, it is imperative that you remove wet shoes. Dry them at lightspeed and say no more cracks.

2. Barefoot is not an option – as much as you love the feeling of wet grass, it’s a sin for your feet. The proximity of moisture increases the chances of developing infection and warts manifold. Apply antifungal powder to dry feet and allow them to air-dry before putting on shoes to get out.

3. A good soak is the best foot spa – Developing the habit of washing feet right after an outdoor trip works wonders. In warm water with some antiseptic (home option: mild shampoo/warm water and salt), let your feet comfortably dive deep. It is recommended to do this once a week for 10-15 minutes. Don’t forget to pat them.

4. Moisturize with Foot Cream – For that healthy glow all over body moisturizing is the golden rule. A well-hydrated heel feels soft and nourished. Moisturize twice a day, in the morning and before bed, and keep cracks (and allergies) away. Always moisturize on clean and dry feet, it helps them to recover.

5. Monsoon Shoes – Let’s end the monsoon footcare guide in style! Don’t step into your everyday footwear choice – heels, sneakers etc. But that doesn’t mean you have to drop your style quotient; Replace normal heels with transparent block heels or wedges, ballerinas, some flip flops or sandals.

It is important that the material does not deteriorate from contact with mud and water. A basic rule of thumb is to assess your shoe needs based on what your day looks like; Squeaky wet sandals are a big no-no for a meeting. The right material prevents any slips or falls, nicks or even cuts.
