How PV Sindhu turned face-to-face for two Telugu states

Hyderabad: Ace shuttler and two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, who hails from Hyderabad in Telangana, is uniting at a time when neighboring states are at loggerheads over their share of Krishna river waters. When she won a badminton silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Telangana government rewarded her with an amount of Rs 5 crore, while Andhra Pradesh provided her Rs 3 crore and a good state government job.

After winning her historic second medal at the Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first Indian woman to do so, Andhra Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy lauded her feats as the only Indian woman to do so. “Best wishes and congratulations to our Telugu girl Sindhu for winning a bronze medal for India in Tokyo Olympics 2020,” Reddy said.

He did not stop with the best wishes but proceeded to reward the state government employee and Olympian with a cash prize of Rs 30 lakh. The Andhra government on Friday handed over the check to the badminton superstar after meeting Reddy with his family.

Before leaving for Tokyo, Reddy met Sindhu and offered a cash incentive of Rs 5 lakh, along with a copy of the government order allotting 2 acres to Sindhu to set up a badminton academy in the port city of Visakhapatnam, Which will happen soon. became the executive capital of the southern state.

When asked when she would set up the academy, the much-loved shuttler said that she would do it soon. “I am very grateful for the continuous support of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, thank you sir,” Sindhu told IANS.

He said the chief minister has been continuously supporting him and even assured that he is always behind him, including giving whatever is needed to ensure his victory.

“I am very happy. He (Reddy) congratulated me. The chief minister blessed me and said that definitely bring a medal and I have brought a medal. The entire state is congratulating me. Thank you to all of them,” she said.

In fact, Reddy himself urged him to start the academy soon to nurture more youth like him.

The ace shuttler also praised the Andhra Pradesh government for introducing schemes to encourage sportspersons.

Complimenting the state government for reserving 2 per cent jobs for sportspersons in government posts, Sindhu said: “It is commendable to know that the state government is giving YSR awards to encourage sportspersons.”

After reaching Hyderabad from Tokyo via Delhi, Sindhu was also warmly welcomed in the state of Telangana. Telangana Sports Minister V. Srinivasa Goud along with other senior officials were present at the airport to personally welcome him.

Gaur also met Sindhu before leaving for Tokyo and played a short badminton game with her.

Several Tollywood actors celebrated the success of the Badminton superstar with equal enthusiasm, including Laxmi Manchu, Mahesh Babu, Varun Tej, Sarat Chandra and others.

Telugu film veteran and megastar from Mogalathuru village Chiranjeevi said: “Congratulations to Sindhu for making history by winning a medal and being the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal for two consecutive terms.”

Outside the sports arena, the badminton virtuoso unites the two kingdoms by embracing and honoring the deities in Telugu states.

She regularly attends the Lal Darwaza Mahakali Temple Bonalu celebrations. Like a traditional Telangana girl, Sindhu wears “Bonam” during the popular festival in Hyderabad.
