How NTA is planning to conduct CUET for over 1 million students

The National Testing Agency (NTA) for the first time in C. ready to organizeOmon University Entrance Test (CUET) this year. It will be conducted for admission to undergraduate courses in 86 universities of the country. The entrance exam will be conducted from July 15 to August 10. While NTA has the experience of conducting high-end entrance exams like JEE Main and NEET, CUET brings a new set of challenges to the agency.

Unlike other entrance exams that have a limited number of subjects, CUET will have around 60,000 combinations of subjects. While the number of candidates applying for CUET is less than that of NEET, in practice the application increases manifold. An NTA official while talking to Hindustan Times said, “Though 10 lakh candidates have applied for CUET-UG, but each of these candidates has applied in at least five universities on an average, hence the total number of applications 50 lakhs more.”

NTA will conduct CUET at around 1000 centers in 54 cities across the country India and 13 cities outside the country. The number of centers to be set up may be around 800 to 1000. The process is being finalized. The official said the infrastructural requirement of the NTA will increase after the CUET is rolled out.

Another challenge for NTA would be to eliminate the possibility of any malpractice in the examination. The agency is reportedly working on the possibility of having an iris capturing system at the exam centres. Last week, NTA had written to the vice-chancellors of all universities across the country that are participating in CUET 2022 to assess and provide closed areas on their campuses for setting up exam centres. The evaluation of CUET will be done in computer based format and an answer key will be released soon after the exam. The results of the candidates will be sent to the universities for which they applied.
