In the midst of the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, the Government of India is making constant efforts to bring back Indian students to the country. A student from Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar, who returned to India, shared a chilling account from war-torn Ukraine. Sanskriti Singh, a resident of Greater Noida, reached India on Wednesday from Bucharest, the capital of Romania. While talking to the media, she said that at one point she felt that she would never be able to return home.

In Ukraine, she lived in a university dormitory in the city of Ivona. According to a report in Culture, the Russian invasion did not have much effect on Innova, however, the airport was closed and the food supply by the hostel was stopped. She also shared that there were long queues at shops and ATMs. Indian students came forward to help each other in this difficult time. “Keeping in view this, the students formed separate groups and each group was assigned a different task. Some were given the responsibility of preparing food and some were given the responsibility of bringing goods from the market. Water had become expensive. Normally a five liter water bottle was available for Rs 40 to 45, but it went up to over Rs 100.

It is being told that she reached the border of Romania and Ukraine on the morning of 26 February. There were already a large number of people there. However, at that time the border was closed for Indian students. They were told that the border would be opened the next day. Culture said that hearing this made her feel that she would never be able to reach her home. Further, she shared that since the temperature there was freezing, people were helping each other by giving blankets. Some even arranged food for the stranded students
