Chennai: Fake cop Vijayan’s dream The run lasted for more than 10 months, during which he introduced himself as a police officer, an army intelligence officer, a news editor for a private channel and a forest officer.
And, he has photographs of him with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, former Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu besides several top Tamil Nadu police officers.

Till his arrest at Devadanapatti in Dindigul district, the 42-year-old Kolathur resident used to leave the house saying he was under “investigation”. He used to return with the loot and after about a week was out for another ‘investigation’. Police now suspect that he may have nabbed Kangaroo in courts over real estate deals in various districts.
His identity cards were so accurate, Dindigul Superintendent of Police VR Srinivasan now wants to investigate his source. “Surely there must be someone behind him who is helping to create such fake identity cards. We have got some valid clues, but can’t reveal much right now.”

Cybercrime officials are analyzing whether the pictures are genuine as they are concerned about the security of the VIPs. The Dindigul District Crime Branch police has already sent Vijayan’s mobile for investigation.
A senior official of the DGP’s office said they saw Vijayan roaming around the premises.
An investigating officer said: “Vijayan went to Kerala in plain clothes and informed the police there that he was on a ‘special assignment’. He was disguised as a forest officer while entering forest areas, and on other occasions. An Army Officer Identity Card was displayed.
South Zone Inspector General of Police TS Anbu said: “As Vijayan has claimed to have roamed around Madurai, Theni and Dindigul districts, investigators are probing the motive behind his movement in the area.”
Vijayan from Jeeva Nagar in Kolathur started a lorry transport business after he lost his job in 2020. But he suffered heavy losses and remained unemployed for months. He told his family that he had been selected for Group-I services, and was posted as ‘Assistant Commissioner’. He bought an SUV and converted it into an official police vehicle. All his social media profiles and posts show him in police uniform.
