House of Dragons: Game of Thrones Prequel Gets Release Date, New Still Teases Targaryen’s Chronicles

House of Dragons, the prequel to HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones, has finally announced a release date. Based on George R.R. Martin’s 2018 novel, Fire and Blood, the ten-episode series will focus on the history of the Targaryen House. The series has been around for some time now, with the makers releasing its first look and teaser last year. Now, the official Twitter handle of House of Dragons on Twitter shared a new poster and release date.

The poster shows a golden dragon egg on the verge of hatching, while a pair of dragon eyes are seen behind it. The poster also revealed that it will hatch on August 21.

In addition to the poster, House of Dragons also released new illustrations of the Targaryens that will appear on the show. It was previously announced that Paddy Considine would be seen playing King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith crowned Prince Damon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Alicent Hightower as Princess Renera Targaryen and Olivia Cooke stars has been selected to perform. Other cast members include Eve as Best Princess Raines Valerian, Sonoya Mizuno as Massaria, and Fabian Frankel as Ser Kristen Cole.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Matt Smith revealed that the show is set a few hundred years before the Game of Thrones timeline. “It’s obviously a different show set, you know, a few hundred years before Game of Thrones. And we really see the trials and tribulations of a family, the Targaryens. And they’re a very crazy family, me. Must say,” he recently told the publication.

House of Dragons was announced in October 2019, a few months after Game of Thrones ended. The show is co-produced by Martin and Ryan Kondal. The series is led by Kondall and Miguel Sapochnik, executive producers Vince Gerardis and Ron Schmid, EP/writer Sarah Hayes, directors Claire Kilner and Gita V. Patel and director/co-EP Greg Yatanes.
