Belagavi: Many differently-abled children had to wait for more than two hours for the Chief Minister in the scorching sun. Basavaraj Bommaiwho was about to inaugurate an entertainment center for them.
Several parents of such children were seen controlling them at the newly constructed play area, even as officials called on the CM’s aides to bring them to the venue at the earliest. Savitri Bai Phule Garden has been built inside a garden under the Smart City project.
Swarupa, the mother of Kaushal, a disabled child, told TOI that the event was scheduled at 10 am, for which they had come only at 9.30 am. “It was difficult to handle my son as he is hyperactive. CM should have understood to whom he is addressing. Despite the threat of Covid, many children were waiting for him,” she said.
Kavita Chauhan, who came with two children, said that the Chief Minister should have given priority to the inauguration of this facility, as it is specially meant for children with disabilities. “As far as punctuality is concerned, I have lost hope from politicians,” Kavita lamented.
An official associated with the project told TOI that the facility will benefit 2,200 specially-abled children in the city. He said the chief minister could have visited the facility at the earliest.
The new garden with various facilities for specially-abled children has been built at a cost of over Rs 1 crore. After its opening, one of the children with dementia was seen riding a bicycle. The play area has a soft floor to act as a cushion in case kids bang their heads on the ground. They can enjoy swings, cycling and other sports indoors and in a safe environment.
