Hope PoK will become part of India: Union Minister

Highlight

  • PoK is under the illegitimate control of Pakistan since 22 October 1947.
  • Since then there has been a tussle between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue.
  • India has always said that PoK is a part of Jammu and Kashmir and hence an integral part of India.

Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has always been a contentious issue since India’s independence. PoK has been under Pakistan’s illegitimate control since October 22, 1947, when tribal Lashkars backed by Pakistan invaded the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir and soon thereafter the state’s rulers joined India. India and Pakistan, the two neighboring countries, have been under tension since then over the Kashmir issue.

India has always maintained that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir (Jammu and Kashmir), and is therefore an integral part of India. The current ruling establishment led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Center had even said this on the floor of the House. Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Aksai Chin is an integral and inseparable part of Jammu and Kashmir and India, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in Lok Sabha on August 6, 2019. “Whenever I talk about Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Aksai Chin comes under it and can die for it.”

Now another BJP MP (MP) and Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Kapil Patil has given such a statement in Maharashtra, which has stirred up Pakistan. Addressing the public at an event in Kalyan near Mumbai, Kapil Patil said, “Let’s see and wait, maybe by 2024 something big will happen. There is nothing wrong in hoping that Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) Will become a part of India.” “Only Modi can do all this work, so we should not think about small issues like prices of onions, potatoes, grains etc. Where will we buy onions and potatoes if there is no country? The country should be saved, first PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have taken up the responsibility of saving the country.

The Minister of State further explained how Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah are working tirelessly day and night to solve the problem of Kashmir. Kapil Patil, referring to the abolition of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, said, I remember when PM Modi was speaking in the Rajya Sabha, then the PM had mentioned that when Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister, he took a joint session of Parliament .

Speaking in a lecture series, the Lok Sabha MP from Bhiwandi referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reply in the Rajya Sabha on the Kashmir issue in 2015. “I remember when Modi replied in Rajya Sabha, Modi mentioned that when Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister, he had called a joint session of Parliament. Then he passed the law. It said Kashmir is the biggest problem of the country. This problem will be solved only when India at some point of time annexes Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Then Modi told the opposition that it is your job. We are doing this because you didn’t.”

The resolution he referred to was passed by the Parliament on 22 February 1994 during the tenure of PV Narasimha Rao as the Prime Minister. It was later re-approved during the regime of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. PM Modi used the resolution passed by the Congress government to silence the party. The resolution has two key points – it rules against any interference in the internal affairs of Kashmir and portrays Pakistan as an illegal occupier of Indian territory.

Kapil Patil appealed to the people to give priority to the country and help keep the country safe.
