Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], Sep 19 (ANI): Amid the political turmoil in Punjab, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday said that he is hopeful that Captain Amarinder Singh will not take any step that hurts the party’s interests.
Gehlot tweeted and said, ‘I hope Captain Amarinder Singh ji will not take any such step which harms the Congress party. Captain Sahib himself said that the party had kept him as Chief Minister for nine and a half years. He has served the people of Punjab by working to his full potential.
The direction in which our country is moving due to fascist forces is a matter of grave concern. Therefore, at such a time, it is the responsibility of all Congressmen to rise above themselves and think in the interest of the party and the country.
“I also personally believe that the high command chooses the chief minister after facing the displeasure of several leaders who are in the race to become the CM. But the same Chief Minister gets upset with the decision of the high command while changing. In times like these, one has to listen to one’s conscience.”
He said that Amarinder Singh is a respected leader of the party. Gehlot said, “I hope he will continue to work keeping the interests of the party ahead.”
With the party high command deciding to make security changes in the border state ahead of the assembly elections early next year, Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday resigned as chief minister ahead of a meeting of party legislators. .
The CLP on Saturday unanimously passed a resolution empowering Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to nominate the new chief minister of Punjab after Captain Amarinder Singh stepped down. (ANI)
