Honest taxpayers deserve recognition for paying due share of taxes: Nirmala Sitharaman – Times of India

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on saturday honest taxpayer Deserves to be recognized for dutifully paying his due share of taxes and commended the Income Tax (IT) Department for successful implementation of various reforms.
In his message to the IT Department on the 161st anniversary of income tax dayHe congratulated the department for continuing to work towards simplifying its procedures and procedures and making its functioning hassle free, fair and transparent.
“The Minister said that honest taxpayers deserve respect for their contribution, which they are making in the progress of the nation by dutifully paying their share of taxes… They have done well to discharge their compliance obligations despite the hardships of the taxpayers. Also commended for the pandemic,” an official statement said.
Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary said that most of the procedures and compliance requirements have been shifted to online platforms and the need for taxpayers to visit tax offices has been eliminated or reduced.
He highlighted the fact that interactions with taxpayers are now characterized by a sense of trust and respect, relying more on voluntary compliance.
revenue secretary Tarun Bajaj Appreciated the Department for being able to adapt itself to the sudden changes in the economy and achieve healthy growth in tax collections.
He appreciated the initiatives taken by the department to re-orient its approach towards revenue collection, to make its functioning trust-based and tax-centric.
Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman JB Mohapatra lauded the tax officers for their collective efforts and effectively fulfilling their dual role as the revenue earning arm of the nation and the provider of taxpayer services.
Referring to the big and far-reaching policy measures like ‘Respect Honest’, faceless governance and adoption of Taxpayers’ Charter, he said that these initiatives have made departmental functioning more transparent, objective and taxpayer friendly.
