At least five Assam Police personnel were killed and over 60 people, including an SP, injured while guarding the state’s “constitutional border” with Mizoram, according to officials, as the border dispute between the two northeastern states turned a bloody one. engulfed in conflict. on Monday. The Assam government, in a statement on Monday, alleged that the Mizoram Police opened fire on its officers and civilians with automatic weapons including Light Machine Guns (LMGs) from two prominent high features.

However, Mizoram Home Minister Lalchmalliana claimed that the state police retaliated by “suddenly firing” at Assam Police when 200 of its personnel forcibly crossed a duty post deployed by CRPF personnel and opened fire and fired at unarmed people. attacked.

Later, Shah spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga and urged them to ensure peace on the disputed border and find an amicable solution.

Assam’s Barak Valley districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi share a 164-km border with Mizoram’s three districts of Aizawl, Kolasib and Mamit, following a territorial dispute that led to clashes along the inter-state border in August 2020 and February this year.
