After this the approval of the municipal commissioner was sought to initiate further action, he said, adding that the process of freezing the bank accounts of five big debtors was initiated on Saturday after getting the approval from the municipal commissioner.
Dwivedi said that among the big borrowers facing action on Saturday, a star hotel on Mall Road tops the list, which owes house tax of Rs 21.08 lakh. He said that the other four building owners have outstanding dues between Rs 3.93 lakh and Rs 94,000 on account of house tax.
While reviewing the progress of home tax collection, he said that the revenue collection by eight revenue inspectors of the zone was not found satisfactory, after which show cause notices have been issued to them.
When he submitted his reply, it became clear that many big debtors were not paying heed to the demand notices and warrants issued for house tax clearing. He said that the Municipal Commissioner has started the process of freezing the bank accounts of these building owners after informing the concerned bank managers.
