On the evening of Falgun Purnima, women perform Holi puja at the time of Holika Dahan and offer various things used in the puja, such as umbi, cake made of cow dung, coconut etc. Traditionally, the items offered in Holi also have something or the other. meaning for them.
Umbi: It is a symbol of new grain. At this time the wheat crop is harvested. Umbi is offered in Holi to express gratitude towards God. Hence it is offered to the fire and the grains are used as prasad.
Garland of cow dung cakes: Agni and Indra are considered to be the deities of the full moon of spring. These are offered as a symbol of embellishing the ornament of fire.
Coconut: Coconut is called ‘Shriphal’ in the scriptures. It is offered as a fruit and extracted from Holika Dahan and consumed as Prasad by all the family members.
To remove defects in the house
Astrologer Suresh Shrimali explains that it is almost impossible to live in a house without Vastu Dosha (defects of a house). If the direction of the place of worship, kitchen, toilet or bedroom in people’s houses is not correct as per Vastu, then there is tension, obstruction of progress and negative energy to stay in the family.
To overcome this, first of all, on the next day of Holika Dahan i.e. on the day of playing Holi, one should remember the presiding deity and the guru. After that clean the Northeast corner of your house properly, which is called ‘Ishaan angle’, and offer Gulal and make a ‘Swastik’ sign with vermilion on both sides of your main door.
Also, make a rangoli outside the house and light a four-faced lamp, pour mustard oil in it, put black sesame seeds, two black peppercorns, a little nagkesar (iron) in it and the next day when the flame goes out, press it. Place the wick in the lamp and the remaining oil in the garden of your home or in a planter/pot.
This will ensure that God’s blessings remain in your house and all the negative energy in your house will be destroyed and positive energy will flow and any Vastu defect in the house will also be permanently cured.
