Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup: Netherlands, France, Argentina arrive in Bhubaneswar

The Netherlands, France and Argentina arrived here on Wednesday for the much-awaited FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2021. Grouped in Pool C, with Korea, Spain and the USA, the Dutch have an uphill battle in their early stages of the competition. “For the last 2-3 months, we have trained with each other every Monday-Tuesday. We spent a lot of time with each other on and off the field to get to know each other better and build a better rapport between all of us. It has been a good preparation,” said Netherlands captain Silas Lejmann.

Excited to compete in Bhubaneswar, Lagman said, “We are very excited. We have never played in such a big stadium. It’s a shame that people can’t come and watch the game. We are very excited to play.”

Team France also arrived just an hour after rivals Netherlands and spoke about the team’s plans for the tournament. “We are excited to come, the last time we came with a silver medal was in 2013. We have missed the next one. We dream of doing the same performance from 2013. We have come here to perform at least 1/4 of the last. ,” said France head coach Aymeric Burgum.

“It is always a good thing to come to a country like India. Everything is done here to be in perfect conditions every time. This country is a hockey country and every event here is something incredible,” said Timothée Clement, France’s captain.

Team Argentina, considered a strong contender for the title, also reached Bhubaneswar on Saturday afternoon.

The Dutch will begin their campaign against Korea on 25 November, while Argentina, who are placed in Group D along with Egypt, Germany and Pakistan, will take on Egypt in their first game of the tournament on the same day.
