Hockey India Awards: Multiple Nominations for Savita Punia, Navneet Kaur, PR Sreejesh, Harmanpreet Singh

Women’s team captain Savita Punia, midfielder Navneet Kaur, men’s team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, drag-flickers and captains Harmanpreet Singh and Hardik Singh are among those who have been nominated in multiple categories for the Hockey India Annual Awards.

Hockey India on Thursday released the list of nominations for the much-awaited Hockey India Annual Awards. The most prestigious awards in Indian hockey will be given on March 17. The awards given in the capital carry a total prize money of Rs 1.35 crore with a trophy in each category.

33 nominations in eight categories have made it to the shortlist for the annual awards. These nominees will be honored for their contribution to Indian hockey in the calendar year 2022.

The Hockey India Balbir Singh Senior Award for the Player of the Year awards carry a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh each in the men’s and women’s sections and a trophy. Hockey India Jugraj Singh Award for Upcoming Player of the Year (Men) and Hockey India Asunta Lakra Award for Upcoming Player of the Year (Women), given to U-21 players, cash prize of Rs 10 lakh each and trophies .

Meanwhile, Hockey India Baljit Singh Award for Goalkeeper of the Year Award, Hockey India Pargat Singh Award for Defender of the Year, Hockey India Ajit Pal Singh Award for Midfielder of the Year and Hockey India Dhanraj Award for Forward of the Year Pillai Award each. A cash prize of INR 5 lakh and trophies each.

There are also special categories such as the Hockey India President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement 2022 and the Hockey India Zaman Lal Sharma Award for Invaluable Contribution 2022, which carries an award of Rs 5 lakh.

Hockey India President’s Award for Umpire/Umpire Manager for the year 2022 and Hockey India President’s Award for Technical Officer for the year 2022 will also be presented on the occasion.

Hockey India’s Major Dhyanchand Lifetime Achievement Award will carry the highest cash prize of Rs 30 lakh.
