Hockey India announce 18-men’s team for Asian Champions Trophy 2023

New Delhi: Hockey India announced the 18-member men’s hockey team that will participate in the Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023. The tournament will be held from August 2 to 12 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai.

India will face South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan and China in the group stage of the tournament. The Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023 also serves as a preparation event for their most important 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Indian team squad

The team is led by drag-flicker ace and defender Harmanpreet Singh, while versatile midfielder Hardik Singh serves as the vice-captain. PR Sreejesh and Krishna Bahadur Pathak have been named as the designated goalkeepers of the team, while Jarmanpreet Singh, Sumit, Jugraj Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Varun Kumar and Amit Rohidas have been named defenders.

Meanwhile, the midfield is led by Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Shamsher Singh and Neelkanth Sharma. Also, Manpreet Singh, who was appointed as the defender against Europe in the Pro League, will return to the midfield.

Akashdeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Gurjant Singh, Sukjit Singh and S. Karthi formed the front row. These forwards can score crucial goals, create scoring chances and put constant pressure on the opposition defence.
