An alleged history-sheeter was injured and arrested after an encounter with the police, officials said on Friday.

He told that Sanjit Khari (22) a resident of Khanpur Japti village was arrested on Thursday night in Loni, Ghaziabad. There was a reward of Rs 25,000 on his arrest.

Police said his accomplice, Sonu, a resident of DLF Colony, who was riding in the back, managed to escape.

During routine checking near the Banthla flyover, the police signaled a bike to stop. He said that the bike rider took a U-turn and fled towards Chirori town.

Police teams at other outposts were informed about his movement.

At another post, the suspect dodged the police and opened fire on some policemen.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Iraj Raja said the police retaliated and a bullet was fired in Khari’s left lower side.

He was immediately taken to the Primary Health Center from where he was referred to the District Government Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

Raja said that a country-made pistol, one used and two live cartridges and the bike used in the crime have been recovered from his possession.
