History made: After the first two Hindu officers became Lieutenant Colonel in Pakistan Army, there was a stir on social media too

Two Hindu officers have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel for the first time in the Pakistan Army. The official media of Pakistan gave this information. It is a move that has generated a lot of interest on social media in this conservative Muslim-majority country. Media reports said that Major Dr. Kailash Kumar and Major Dr. Anil Kumar have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel after the promotion was cleared by the Pakistan Army Promotion Board. According to local media reports, Kailash Kumar, a resident of Tharparkar district of Sindh province, also became the country’s first Major from the Hindu community in 2019.

Kailash had joined the army in 2008
Kailash was born in 1981 and joined the Pakistan Army as a captain in 2008 after completing MBBS from Liaquat University of Medical Health and Sciences in Jamshoro. Anil Kumar is one year younger than Kailash, a resident of Badin in Sindh province. According to reports, he had joined the Pakistani Army in 2007. On Thursday, state-run Pakistan Television tweeted about the promotion of Kailash Kumar. PTV tweeted, Kumar has become the first Hindu officer to be promoted to lieutenant colonel.

Promotion not officially confirmed yet
As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding both the promotions. Hindus and people from other minority communities were not allowed to join the Pakistan Army until 2000. Hindus are the largest minority community in Pakistan. According to official estimates, there are about 75 lakh Hindus living in the country. Most of Pakistan’s Hindu population is settled in Sindh province where they share culture, tradition and language with Muslims.
