Heartbroken from the loss of Baba Maharaj Satarkar, the actor shared his childhood memories of the Kirtankar and said that his words inspired him to follow the pilgrimage life.
The revered Kirtankar and preacher, Baba Maharaj Satarkar, passed away on October 26. He was 88. Baba Maharaj Satarkar’s final moments were spent at his home in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was a prominent figure among the highest Kirtankars of the Varkari Community and the Satarkar community, which boasted a multitude of devoted followers. He was renowned for delivering religious discourses not only across the state of Maharashtra but also in foreign countries. His profound teachings inspired countless young individuals in Maharashtra to embrace Kirtan, Pravachan, and Nirupan.
In the wake of his passing, several political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, paid their respects to this influential spiritual leader. Adding his voice to the chorus of tributes, the senior Kirtankar and actor Sankarshan Karhade shared a heartfelt tribute to the late Kirtankar through an Instagram post.
Sankarshan Karhade, now a household name, gained recognition through his role in the popular series Majhi Tujhi Reshimgath. Beyond his work in television serials, he has carved a niche for himself through his performances in films and theatres. Grief-stricken by the loss of Baba Maharaj Satarkar, the actor reminisced about his childhood encounters with the Kirtankar, recalling how the sage’s words had inspired him to embark on a life of pilgrimage. Karhade shared a photograph of Baba Maharaj Satarkar and expressed his disbelief that he would no longer be able to listen to the Kirtan, Abhang, and speeches of the revered spiritual leader.
Reflecting on his childhood memories, Karhade mentioned how his father had acquired a new cassette player, and the first cassette he played on it was by Baba Maharaj. He vividly recalled the moment when he first heard the voice of Baba Maharaj while listening to his bhajans and kirtans. The actor also shared the reactions of his grandparents upon hearing Baba Maharaj during their pilgrimages.
Karhade praised the profound impact of Baba Maharaj’s words during his discourses, likening them to pearls and describing the gleam of wisdom in his eyes. He commended the small notations that Baba Maharaj used to include in his religious teachings, further emphasizing the profound influence of the spiritual leader. For Karhade, Baba Maharaj’s presence was so spiritually significant that he believed even the divine would feel blessed to be in his company.
