‘Hiraba Smriti Sarovar’: Check dam named after PM Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben in Rajkot

Rajkot: A check dam being constructed on the outskirts of Rajkot city in Gujarat has been named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother Heeraben. An official gave this information on Friday. Trust President Dilip Sakhia said that a check dam is being constructed at a cost of Rs 15 lakh by Gir Ganga Parivar Trust in the lower part of Nyari river near Wagudad village on Rajkot-Kalawad road. A ground breaking ceremony for the dam was held on Wednesday in the presence of local MLA Darshita Shah and Rajkot Mayor Pradeep Dao, it was said. “As a tribute to the Prime Minister’s mother, we have decided to name the check dam Hiraba Smriti Sarovar, as it is being built in her memory. Hiraba died on December 30 at the age of 99 in a hospital in Ahmedabad. The trust has built 75 check dams in the last four months with the financial help of donors, he said. Sakhia said the latest dam would be completed within two weeks and would have the capacity to store about 25 million liters of water.
