Ravi Sihag has secured 18th rank and Sunil Dhanwanta has secured 22nd rank in the Civil Services Examination of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). These two candidates who took the examination through Hindi medium have made it to the top 25 after 7 years. This achievement of Ravi and Sunil has again raised hope among the students of Hindi medium. But, the reality is that in UPSC, on an average only 50 students out of a thousand choose Hindi medium. Only 10 or 15 of them pass the exam.

IAS Nishant Jain, who secured All India Rank 13 in UPSC 2014 exam, says, “The main reason for this condition of Hindi medium is the question paper of the exam. In this, the questions are not asked in normal Hindi, but the English questions are translated and printed in the paper as they are. Students have to bear the brunt of this. In such a situation, students think that better than this
Do some hard work in English itself, so that the question becomes easy to understand.

When the students preparing for UPSC see the questions written in Hindi in the old paper, then they go to the English medium. The rest of the students change the medium after the result of the exam. The number of students in Hindi medium is continuously decreasing. At the same time, the content makers are also working hard on English for the preparation of the exam.

C-SAT paper also caused huge loss
C-SAT paper appeared in the preliminary examination in 2011. Generally, Hindi medium students were at a disadvantage as compared to science subjects because of being from humanities subjects. When the result of Hindi medium fell rapidly, there was an agitation. C-SAT qualifying took place in 2015, but by then Hindi had suffered a lot.

how to choose hindi medium
In 2013, when the syllabus changed, 25 were selected from Hindi. Got only one IAS.
Only 5% who were successful in the examination held in 2014 were from Hindi. The best Nishant Jain’s All India Ranking was 13th.
In the 2015 results, there were only 2 people in Hindi medium within the top 100.
In the 2016 result only 3 were successful in Hindi medium inside the top 50.
In 2017, even 50 Hindi ones were not elected. The best rank was 146th.

Fast growing Hindi mother tongue of 43.6% population
Hindi is the mother tongue of 528 crore people of the country, i.e. 43.6% of the population. About 13.9 crore (over 11%) spoke Hindi as their second language. It is clear that Hindi is the mother tongue or second language of 55% of the population. Hindi is also developing rapidly.

Between 1971 and 2011, the number of Hindi speakers increased from 202 million to 528 million, an increase of 161%. On the other hand, knowing this language is extremely important due to the pressure of English in exams and interviews. For this reason, while there were 2.6 million English speakers in the 2001 census, 8.3 million marked it as a second language in 2011.
