Days after incessant rains wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh, the Manali-Leh National Highway was restored for vehicular traffic on Monday after remaining closed for over 80 hours.

The road was sanctioned by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) under ‘Project Deepak’.

About 1500 heavy vehicles are stranded due to the blockage of this road. These vehicles are important for the armed forces and the local people of Ladakh for winter storage of various items.

As a result, rivers, creeks and streams are in spate, causing widespread damage to infrastructure and disruption of essential services in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.
