Mohammad Rafiq is a resident of Rajasthan

The new Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh, Mohammad Rafiq is originally from Rajasthan. He was born on May 25, 1960. Judge Mohammad Rafiq started his practice in the Rajasthan High Court after obtaining a law degree from Jaipur University. On 15 May 2006, he was appointed as a judge in the Rajasthan High Court. He was also the Acting Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court twice at different times. On 13 November 2019, Justice Mohammad Rafiq was made the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court. On his transfer on 27 April 2020, he took over as the Chief Justice of Odisha High Court. On 3 January 2021, he was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

High Court orders promotion and transfer of some judges

According to the notification issued by the State High Court, promotion and transfer orders of 6 District Judiciary Judges have been issued. Under this notification, District and Sessions Judge Dole Ram Thakur has been sent from Shimla to Family Court Mandi and District and Sessions Judge Bahadur Singh has been sent to District and Sessions Judge (Forest), Shimla. Apart from this, Jyotsna Sumant Dadwal has been promoted as Additional Sessions Judge, Registrar Lokayukta Himachal Pradesh, Madan Kumar as District and Sessions Judge (Leave/Training Reserve) High and Barinder Thakur has been appointed as Secretary Human Rights Commission Himachal Pradesh. Under this notification, a proposal has been sent to the government to make Hansraj the chairman of the Waqf Board.

Recommendation of transfers of two judges of Himachal

The transfer of two judges of Himachal High Court has also been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium. Among them, Justice Sureshwar Thakur has been recommended to be transferred to Allahabad High Court and Justice Anoop Chitkara to Punjab Haryana High Court.
