Anjali Rayat of Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district has died in a gunfight between the drug mafia off the Caribbean coast of Mexico. German woman Jennifer Heinzoll also died in the shooting. Jennifer Heinzoll was taken to hospital after being shot, but she died during treatment. Three more tourists were injured in the incident on Wednesday.

Anjali had gone to Mexico to celebrate her birthday. She was an engineer by profession as well as a travel blogger. She used to tell people about the beautiful places of the world through her blog. She currently resides in San Jose, California, USA. Anjali was married. Two days ago, he also shared a beach post in Tulum with his user on his Instagram account. Anjali is a resident of Housing Board Colony in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. His father’s name is KD Rayat.

According to media reports, on the day Anjali’s birthday was, she lost her life due to a gunfight between drug dealers. On the night of the incident, Rayat and four other foreign tourists were having dinner on the terrace of La Malquerida restaurant on the Caribbean coast, according to Spanish newspaper El País.

Four men, who reached there with assault rifles at around 10.30 in the night, started firing on the people sitting at the table equal to Anjali. Meanwhile, Anjali and a German tourist were shot dead on the spot, while three other tourists from Germany and the Netherlands were injured.

According to the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office, it was a gang war between two gangs who sell drugs in the area. Anjali and the other woman just became a victim of enmity between them.

Anjali had listed herself as a travel blogger from Himachal Pradesh on her Instagram account. But she had been working as a senior site reality engineer at LinkedIn, a professional social media company, in San Jose since July. Earlier Anjali was associated with Yahoo Company.

Brother asked for help in bringing the body back to India
Anjali’s brother Ashish Rayat has urged the Tulum Mayor to expedite the process of handing over her body to the family. Ashish has also sought help from the authorities in sanctioning his visa and other help to bring Anjali’s body to India at the earliest.
