‘Hijack’: SpiceJet Passenger Frustrated by Flight Delay Tweets False Alarm; Arrested at Delhi Airport

A man was detained after allegedly falsely reporting on Twitter that a flight from Dubai to Jaipur was hijacked. The incident happened on Wednesday. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Airport) Ravi Kumar Singh, Moti Singh Rathore, a resident of Nagaur in Rajasthan, reached the Indira Gandhi International Airport after a Dubai-Jaipur flight was diverted to Delhi due to bad weather. The flight landed at 9:45 am and was cleared to take off at 1:40 pm. Meanwhile, Rathore tweeted, “SG 58 Dubai to Jaipur High Jack”, police said.

However, in the same episode, he tweeted saying that he is not good at English language and used the word ‘high jacked’ instead of ‘delay’. Furthermore, he later apologized for the tweet. Rathore was offloaded from the flight along with his bag and was allowed to board the flight after necessary checks. He was handed over to the local police for further action, he said.

He said the accused told the police that he posted the tweet as he was frustrated over the flight getting stuck. Police said a case was registered in the matter and Rathore was arrested. Incidents of misbehavior in flights as well as ‘unruly’ passengers are also on the rise.

In one such incident, a passenger left a note written ‘bomb’ on the flight, leading to panic at the airport. Other notable incidents of in-flight misbehavior include an Air India passenger urinating on his co-passenger, an on-flight fight and an argument between passengers. However, airlines are yet to devise a way to deal with such passengers.
