The hijab controversy, which started from a school in Udupi, has spread across Karnataka. Regarding the matter, the girls have petitioned the High Court saying that hijab is mandatory in Islam, so they should be allowed it. At the same time, Pramod Muthalik of Shri Ram Sena in Hubli has said that are you making India Pakistan or Afghanistan? If you are asking for burqa or hijab then you can go to Pakistan.

Pramod also said that insisting on wearing hijab reflects his terrorist mindset. Such people should be thrown out of school and college. You have the freedom to wear the clothes of your choice, but when students come to the school-college campus, then the rules have to be followed.

The hijab controversy in Karnataka began in January 2022, when Udupi’s Pre-University College barred 7 girls from attending classes for wearing the hijab. After this, these girls started a protest by filing a petition in the Karnataka High Court that not giving permission to wear hijab is a violation of their fundamental right under Articles 14 and 25 of the Constitution.

However, Udupi MLA and College Development Committee president K. Raghupati Bhat, after a meeting with girl students who were protesting for wearing hijab, had said that under the decision of the education department, Muslim students will not be allowed to enter the class wearing hijab.

Demonstration ended in Shivamogga
Muslim girl students attended class without wearing hijab at Government Degree College, Bhadravati in Shivamogga district of Karnataka. On Thursday, girls coming to campus wearing hijab were asked to remove it in the waiting room before going to class. Principal MG Umashankar after discussion with the students and their parents said that the issue has been resolved. The protesting girls were persuaded to withdraw the movement. She will not wear hijab in class.

Even about 3 years ago, there was a dispute in the school regarding the hijab. Then it was decided that no one would come wearing the hijab. For the last few days, students started coming to school wearing hijab. In protest, some students decided to wear saffron. Although the school management had also asked these girls not to wear hijab many times, but the students did not accept it.
