High Court: Gauhati High Court quashes proceedings against Swamy in 2015 ‘hate speech’ case. India News – Times of India

Guwahati: Guwahati High Court Trial court proceedings against senior BJP leader quashed on Thursday Rajya Sabha MP Subramanyam Swami, adding that there was no legal evidence before the trial court when it took cognizance of the complaint on “hate speech”.
Final hearing of petition filed by BJP leader in 2015 challenging proceedings of lower court of Assam Karimganj Against him was organized on 11 November in Barak Valley.
The court had reserved the decision after the hearing. Senior advocate Swamy presented his case in the HC as “petitioner-in-person”, and was assisted by Bijan Mahajan, a senior advocate of the Gauhati High Court, and others. A single judge bench on Thursday pronounced the verdict quashing the proceedings in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Karimganj. The case was initiated by a lawyer from Karimganj in Tuturu Rehman PatikriIn the trial court against Swamy for allegedly creating communal disharmony and defaming a particular community while delivering a speech at a function organized by a private university in Guwahati in March, 2015.
