Travis Head has named his choice to replace Tim Paine as the next Test captain of the Australian cricket team. Paine relinquished captaincy on Friday Cricket Australia’s investigation into gloves for sending lewd messages to female colleague. The 36-year-old took this big decision ahead of the Ashes series in Australia next month. CA has already announced the squad for the prestigious 5 match series.
Head was in the middle of a press conference when Paine announced his resignation as captain. The left-handed batsman was reluctant to voice his opinion on the Penn scandal but named Pat Cummins as his pick to become Australia’s next captain.
“Obviously well talked about Pat, who is named as vice-captain, it’s hard to go after him, or give him a chance, he’s someone who gives up the lead, Not only the way he presents himself and speaks and the way he goes about things and the way he trains, but also when he is on the field,” Head said.
On his return to Australia after winning the T20 World Cup recently, Cummins was also asked whether he was ready to take over the captaincy in the near future.
“I think so. I’ve been in this role for two years. I’d be ready if I had to, but I doubt it,” he said Tuesday before news of Paine’s resignation.
The premium pacer also spoke about the workload concerns on getting the captaincy, which he was aware of and added that he would have other senior players on hand if such a situation arises.

You have guys like Smith (Steve Smith) and Davy Warner who are incredibly experienced and experienced bowlers who take care of themselves. Paine took charge of the Australian team in 2018 after Steve Smith was stripped of the captaincy following the infamous ball-tampering scandal.
