‘He’s Got a Lot of Cricket Before IPL’-Australia Coach Asks Young All-Rounder to Manage Workload Effectively After IPL 2023 Availability

The 23-year-old Cameron Green is all set to become a hot property in the IPL mini-auction to be held in Kochi on December 23. It is anyone’s guess that the Australian all-rounder is already on the radar of the franchise as he can not only bowl medium pace, but he can also open the batting for you. Meanwhile, some franchises will now be wary of his availability after Australia coach Andrew McDonald warned the youngster to manage his workload.

It must be mentioned here that Green has declared his availability in IPL 2023 unlike some of his compatriots like Pat Cummins who have withdrawn citing busy international schedule.

Australia have a busy season which will begin with a four-match Test series India Then there is IPL. After which the Australian team will land in England for the very important Ashes series. In such a situation, their workload has to be managed immediately.

“His (Green) net load in the next 12 months of cricket, is it a concern? Yeah, I think it’s a concern for every player,” McDonald was quoted as saying by the Australian Associated Press (AAP).

“We have talked about it many times. It is imaginary to see how he is feeling at the end of March. He has played a lot of cricket before the IPL and I am sure his decision will not be taken now, it will be later Will be done on the track going to IPL.

“You never know how your body is going to feel in three months’ time after nine Test matches and some white-ball cricket at the back end of that Indian series,” he said.

Australia opener David Warner has already warned Green about the challenge of managing his workload. Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins has already been ruled out of next year’s IPL due to a busy international schedule.

Recently, Green has been troubled by a back injury, which has limited his bowling.

McDonald said, “We’re fortunate and fortunate that the quality in front of him (Green) doesn’t mean he has to bowl an excessive amount of overs.”

“He bats in the top six, he holds his own as a batsman. So I can say he is quite unrestricted at the moment.”
