Kohli got off to a flying start against the LSG, firing against players like Avesh Khan, Krunal Pandya and Mark Wood. He scored 42 runs in the powerplay, his highest score in the first six overs in an IPL game. But from there he became a bit more cautious and the frequency of his boundaries decreased. He took 10 balls to reach his fifty and it did not go unnoticed as commentator Simon Doull pointed out on air that Kohli was playing for ‘a personal milestone’.

“Virat Kohli started like a train. He was hitting shots. But from 42 to 40 it took 10 balls. He is concerned about his personal milestones. I don’t think there’s a place for it in this game anymore. You just have to keep going, especially with the wicket in hand at that time. You have to keep going,” he said.

After Kohli’s half-century, RCB captain Faf du Plessis scored an unbeaten 79 off 46 balls, while Glenn Maxwell also scored a blistering half-century to guide Royal Challengers Bangalore to a whirlwind 212-run knock.

Du Plessis opened the innings in the 15th over with three big hits off Bishnoi’s ball, which made RCB’s score 137 for one wicket. Maxwell matched stroke for stroke, punished Avesh for back-to-back maximums and brought up his half-century off just 24 balls. Such was the onslaught that the duo brought up their century partnership in just 44 balls.

This is not the first time that Dole has criticized a star batsman in a T20 league. During a Pakistan Super League game last month, the former New Zealand cricketer lashed out against Babar Azam for prioritizing his century. The Quetta Gladiators captain took 14 balls to reach triple figures of 83 off 46 balls.
