Here’s how Xiaomi plans to protect users from malware – Times of India

New Delhi: Xiaomi It is reportedly working on a new feature that will protect its users from accidental APK installs and malware. Sideloading apps has been one of the most desirable and differentiating features of the Android operating system. This feature enables users to install apps from the company’s official App Store. However, downloading and installing sideloaded apps puts users at risk of installing malware on their Android phones. To avoid this situation, Xiaomi is reportedly working on a new feature MIUI Called ‘pure mode’.
According to a report by ITHome, Xiaomi is currently recruiting internal beta testers for MIUI’s Pure Mode. As per the report, this upcoming feature will allow users to block sideloading of Android apps on their Xiaomi phones. Once this feature is enabled, users will not be able to install APKs from unofficial sources and app repositories. Users will also be allowed to disable Pure Mode whenever they want.
In the introduction of Pure Mode Beta, Xiaomi states that 40% of APKs downloaded on Xiaomi phones do not pass the security audit and 10% are identified as risky applications. The main purpose of this new mod is to prevent the risks caused due to accidental APK download, background installation and incorrect operation. This feature will give users more control over the apps they want to install on their smartphones.
The company has not yet disclosed when this new feature will be made available to the users. The report states that this feature is currently in beta stage and is limited to China.
Recently, Xiaomi launched its latest Redmi-branded smartphone and true wireless earbuds in India. Redmi 10 Prime comes in two variants – 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB, priced at Rs 12,499 and Rs 14,499. This is the first smartphone powered by MediaTek Helio G88 processor. The smartphone runs Android 11 operating system and comes with a 50MP quad-rear camera setup.
On the other hand, the Redmi Earbuds 3 Pro comes in Blue, White and Pink color options and is priced at Rs 2,999. The earbuds come with smart wear detection for autoplay and pause. The earbuds come with an IPX4 rating which makes the device water-resistant and promises 7 hours of battery backup on a single charge.
