While, many people must have faced scalp dandruff, have you ever faced dandruff in beard? Beard dandruff is basically dry, powdery which is also flaky and causes irritation and itching. Dermatologist Dr Madhuri Agarwal explained in an Instagram post that some of the common causes of dandruff in the beard can be psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis, improper hygiene and even unsuitable beauty products. If you are facing beard dandruff and are looking for ways to get rid of it, here are some helpful tips shared by the expert:

Do not wash beard with very hot/cold water

Just like your scalp hair, don’t use too much cold water on your face. Too hot or too cold water strips the skin of its natural oils and dehydrates it. It is recommended to use lukewarm water to wash the face.

exfoliate regularly

Dry exfoliation at regular intervals will keep the beard dandruff at bay. According to experts, people should gently exfoliate in circles with a brush (stiff bristles) before entering the shower.

A PH-Friendly Cleanser

Make sure the pH of your cleanser is balanced. The dermatologist said that a pH balanced cleanser will keep the hydration level of the skin intact. This will make your facial skin even more supple and smooth.

Say no to anti-dandruff products

Although anti-dandruff shampoos and soaps make big claims, they only make your beard dry. Do not use them and stick to your regular face wash.

moisturize

Madhuri advised that you should moisturize your beard with lotion and not cream. She explained that a lotion is thinner in consistency than a cream. Moisturizing 2-3 times a day will not only keep your beard intact but will also keep dandruff away.

get professional advice

The expert suggested that even after taking all possible measures to deal with beard dandruff, if the condition persists, then you should immediately consult a dermatologist.
