Mishra was accused of insulting women after he highlighted that he had brought “development at such a level in Datia that not only cultural programs were organised, but even Hema Malini was made to dance”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra sparked a row after insinuating that party colleague and BJP MP Hema Malini was “made to dance” at a cultural program in Datia.

Mishra was accused of insulting women after he highlighted that he had brought “development at such a level in Datia that not only cultural programs were organised, but even Hema Malini was made to dance.”

The BJP MLA’s remarks have gone viral on social media.

Reacting to Mishra’s comments, the Janata Dal (United) called them “derogatory”.

“See the reality of shameless BJP members who criticise the character and appearance. Madhya Pradesh’s Home Minister Narottam Mishra has said such derogatory things about his own party’s MP Hema Malini,” an X (formerly Twitter) post by the party said.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh also reacted to Mishra’s remarks saying “listen to the real meanness of the honourable minister of cultured BJP towards women. He doesn’t even spare his own party leader.”

BJP has fielded Narottam Mishra from Datia for the fourth time, in the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. Mishra has won from Datia in the 2008, 2013 and 2018 assembly elections.
